The Leftovers - "The Garveys at Their Best" Review

Bravo to the team that markets "The Leftovers", because, unlike Laurie Garvey, they managed to keep hidden the surprise of tonight's episode. And what a nice surprise it was. "The Garveys at Their Best" was yet another excellent episode in this debut season, and it was a nice calm before the finale's storm.

The Leftovers - Book vs. TV Series

For the most part, Damon Lindelof's "The Leftovers" has followed very closely Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers". Tiny tweaks have been made here and there to make the story more cinematic and set it up for a longer life, but the main plot points remained in tact. That was until the tv series hit episode eight, "Cairo".

Book comparisons, and what the deviations could mean for the future of the show after the break. Book spoilers, obviously.

The Leftovers - "Cairo" Review

"The Leftovers" has so far been a deliberate slow burn. It takes its time, twice now devoting an entire episode to a single character. The mysteries have been sprinkled in delicately, letting the authentic grief of the characters take center stage. Well, with "Cairo", Damon Lindelof has turned up the temperature from a slow burn to a house fire that may just spread across all of Mapleton.
